He also did not finish his studies right away due to lack of money, but he eventually graduated with a degree in Broadcast Communication.

In 1982, he started as a driver and reporter at a radio station in Tacloban.

In 2001, he was elected as the Representative of the First District of Leyte.

The Tragedy That Changed His Life Forever
One of the most heartbreaking moments in Ted Failon’s life came in April 2009 when his wife, Trina Etong, was found with a gunshot wound to the head inside their home in Quezon City.
Her death shocked the entire nation and quickly became one of the most talked-about cases in the Philippines.
During the investigation, Ted Failon and several members of his household came under intense public and media scrutiny, while obstruction of justice complaints were also filed against some individuals over the handling of the crime scene.
After conducting forensic examinations and reviewing the evidence, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) concluded that Trina’s death was self-inflicted and cited her reported struggle with major depressive disorder and financial difficulties.
No criminal conviction resulted against Ted Failon.
Although the investigation officially ended, the tragedy left a lasting mark on his personal life and remains one of the most remembered controversies in Philippine media history.
A New Chapter After Leaving ABS-CBN
After nearly three decades with ABS-CBN, Ted left the network in 2020 and joined TV5.
There, he continued delivering news and public affairs programs through Ted Failon and DJ Chacha and Good Morning Kapatid, proving that his commitment to serving the public remained unchanged.
